Mosaic Associates was proud to join in the ceremonial opening of Hudson Valley Community College’s new $47.4 million, 100,000-square-foot Science Center on October 10. Leaders from local, state and federal government, as well as the State University of New York; HVCC President Andrew J. Matonak; college board members; faculty, staff and students of the college; and business and construction partners all participated in the celebration.
Mosaic Associates collaborated with Payette of Boston on the building’s design. U.W. Marx Construction Company served as the project manager.
As the Capital Region’s STEM and healthcare-related industries continue to grow, the demand for qualified scientists and technicians continues to increase. The new Science Center helps HVCC serve as a bridge between companies seeking skilled employees and those seeking training and employment.
More than 7,500 Hudson Valley students are studying in the Science Center, which offers 25 laboratories for biology, chemistry, physics, biotechnology, bio-manufacturing, earth science and forensics. The building contains 11 classrooms, faculty offices, conference and computer lab spaces, a science study center and a greenhouse.
The Science Center is expected to achieve a LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, marking it as sustainable, energy-efficient new construction.
